Canadian Newcomers Give Taste of Culture with Online Cookbook

Recipes found on the immigration Education Society website and YouTube are from immigrants living in Canada.

These refugees and immigrants are now the stars of a new cooking series where they showcase different recipes from their homelands. By doing the videos, they can practice their English while sharing with others about their own cultures.

Claudia Gutierrez has lived in Calgary for only nine months. She posted a tutorial making a Filet Mignon and said she likes to learn more, and this is a way for her to accomplish that. A newcomer from Russia, Elmira Rodikova, presented a Russian salad. She tells other immigrants who may be interested in presenting a video in the future to, “Be brave and do it.” Calgarians can watch the videos and learn about the cultures of the newcomers and become better acquainted.
