Canada day Info- By the Numbers!

On July 1, we celebrated Canada Day. Canada Day is Canada’s Independence Day,  On July 1, 1867, Canada became a state with the unification of the four founding provinces: Quebec, Ontario, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

Canadian Independence Day was initially called Dominion Day, but was later renamed Canada Day as part of Canada’s gradual disengagement process from Britain.

Independence Day is marked by a key ceremony held in the presence of the Governor-General of Canada and the Prime Minister at the entrance plaza of the Parliament Building in Ottawa. It is a Sabbath day in Canada, and Canadians mark the holiday with various activities and events held across the country.

Statistics Canada Facebook page has created a particularly cool iconography for this special day. Check in out!
